The previous Luas.ie design was built at a time when desktop was by far the most commonly used device for internet browsing. As a result, the layout was constructed accordingly, with elements scaled to suit desktop monitor resolutions. Since then, the popularity of smartphones has overtaken the desktop – a shift which later prompted the creation of a separate mobile website. The aim of the updated Luas.ie design was to bridge this gap between the desktop and mobiles sites. With this in mind, Realise4 centralised all components to deliver one fully responsive website which scales effortlessly to fit all screen sizes.
The updated Luas.ie website also offers a new set of geolocation features to mobile users. These are convenient tools which deliver information based on the user's location, such as their closest Luas stops and walking routes to stops from their current position. Users can also access vital information like ticket prices, real time information, tram operating hours and tram frequency – all easily accessible on the relevant stop pages.
Behind the scenes, the website content editors benefit from a new, refined CMS (content management system). The user interface is also responsive, enabling editors to access and update content either on-the-go via mobile or tablet, or on desktop.
